FFA Week is being celebrated all this week across our country in high schools.
The Girl Scouts of America are selling their famous cookies through mid-March. In their early days, the Girl Scouts baked their own cookies to sell in their neighborhood and now it is a corporate business. Call 800-345-6858 to find out where to buy those cookies. There are nearly 6,400 Girl Scouts in the southern forty counties of Illinois.
Presidents’ Day, recognizing the birthday of Abraham Lincoln on Feb. 12 and the birthday of George Washington on Feb. 22, are now both celebrated on Feb. 17, this past Monday.

Seven gal pals of Deanna Thompson of Marion gathered to celebrate her 60th birthday on Feb.8 at O’Charley’s, with great food, conversation and a complimentary dessert for the birthday girl.
Valentine Day has come and gone and I enjoyed the rose arrangement from my financial advisor, the balloons and chocolate from my two daughters, along with only one Valentine in the mail, My two daughters, Pam and Nancy, along with our friend, Deanna, treated ourselves to dinner at Cracker Barrel on Friday evening, along with a full house.
The Williamson County HCE is holding a Destination Lunch, with a Hawaaian luau on Saturday, March 8, 11 am to 1 pm, at the Boy Scout Cabin at Ashley Park on Parish Street in Marion. Proceeds will go for community projects. Call Judy Spiller for the tickets at $10 that will include a buffet feast, ukelele music, and a hula dancing demo.

A Youth Revival will be held on Friday, Feb. 28, at 7pm, at the Goreville Pentecostal Church. Refreshments will be served afterwards. One and all are welcome!
Once again, the Family Consumer and Science Conference will be held at Shawnee Community College, on Thursday, March 6. Registration forms are available at the Extension office in Vienna. Attention shoppers! On Saturday, March 10am to 5 pm, be at The Marion Pavilion, where some one hundred vendors will be selling their wares indoors. Outdoors will be alpacas to pet and food trucks to whet your appetites.
On March 2, the annual Academy Awards Extravaganza will be presented on ABC-TV at 7pm.
The Hub Recreation Center will host a farmers’ market on the first Friday of March, 3-6pm, in the gym. Food truccks will be outside at 4-7pm. There will be a diverse array of produce, crafts, baked goods, and more.
The Daniel Chapman Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution delivered Valentine notes to the Marion V.A. Hospital and Veterans Home residents on Feb.14 Members had met the day before at the P.A.S.T. House in Jonesboro to prepare the Valentines.
The “Rekindling the Spirit Youth Rally” will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 19, with food served at 6:30, followed by the worship service at 7pm at the Pleasant Ridge Center. Garrett Gross will bring the message. All area youth and their grownups are welcome. The March 19 service will be held at the New Liberty Church of Eddyville. Come and bring a carload!
“Into the Woods” will be presented onstage at the Marion Cultural and Civic Center on Feb. 28-Mar.3.
