The snow is gone! After thirteen days of looking out to view the white landscape, it all disappeared overnight, following the rain of Friday evening.
March 20 will bring us the first day of Spring. I can hardly wait!
Taking a look at the January full moon, “the Full Wolf Moon” that is also known as the “Snow Moon” thanks to the early American Indians.
Free income tax prep will be offered, for those who qualify, beginning in February and provided by the University of Illinois Extension volunteers. This will be held at the Goreville Senior Center and the U of I Extension office in Vienna. Call 618-973-0978 for more information.
The Johnson County Women’s Club will hold their next meeting on Friday, Feb. 7 at 1:30pm at the Vienna Public Library. All county ladies are welcome to join this active organization.
“Praying Women” will present “Jesus Everywhere” at the Pittsburg Il. Free Will Baptist Church at 1-5:30pm on Saturday, Feb. 1 Refreshments will be provided. Register at PittsburgFWBC. org. This is free.
An indoor farmers’ market will be held at “The Hub” Recreation Center in Marion, each first Friday, 3-6pm, through March. There will be a diverse array of vendors from across Southern Illinois. There will also be two food trucks on the parking lot at 4-7pm.
Take your aluminum cans to the Lake Egypt fire station on Lake of Egypt Road. The proceeds from the sale of these will be matched by the Lake of Egypt Association of Property Owners (LEAPO) and will be donated to the Elks Club for the July 4 fireworks display on the lake.
Donate your aluminum can tabs to the Johnson County HCE, who will deliver them to the Ronald McDonald House in Nashville for their largest fundraiser of the year. Take the tabs to the U. of I. Extension office in Vienna.

Get well wishes go out to Grayson Webb, who finished his basketball season at GHS with two broken wrists.
These folks stay busy indoors, in spite of the outside weather. At the Hillview Senior Living and Rehab, the residents enjoyed a pet contest on Jan. 14 and the following day, they celebrated National Bagel Day with bagels served plain or with strawberry cream cheese. They were seen on another day exercising to music.

Looking ahead to Saturday, March 1, there will be a “Shopaloosa” at The Pavilion in Marion, 10am to 5pm, where 100 vendors will be showing and selling their wares. There will also be food trucks on-site, along with alpacas and much more.
