In the November 17, 1996, edition of the local newspaper, was pictured a live turkey on the peak of the roof of the home of Danny and Sue Gwaltney. The turkey stayed around for several hours. Gwaltney works at Schnuck’s in Cape Girardeau and plans to purchase their Thanksgiving turkey there.
The children of Pete and Mabel Huggins will help them celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary, on Sunday, Dec. 8, 2-4 pm, at the Goreville Senior Center. Huggins and Mabel
Barner were married in Lafe, Arkansas on Dec. 17, 1946. Their six children are: Linda Huggins, Ann Partney, Carol Harry, David Huggins, Dale Huggins and Donna Fine. There are also five grandchildren.
The Concerned Parents Association is sponsoring a crafts fair at the Goreville School on Dec. 1, 8am to 2pm. Call the school to rent a space for $10.
Congratulations to Karen Foster as “Employee of the Month” at Magna Bank Goreville Banking Center, where she is a teller and receptionist.
Elisha Marie Craig arrived at 5pm on Tuesday, at the Carbondale Memorial Hospital, born to David and Angie Craig.
John C. Throgmorton of Wolf Creek, Montana, the son of Pinky Throgmorton of Goreville, was brought back to Southern Illinois
for his funeral and burial service last week.
A double page of ads by businesses of Goreville wished a Happy Thanksgiving to readers, as “A Time to Count Your Blessings.”
In school board actions, the board approved Supt. Joe Steffey’s recommendation of increasing the daily pay of substitute teachers, from $47 to $54, with approval unanimous.
In marriage license applications from the County Clerk’s office, were these from Goreville: Heather Lee Ruhe, 23, to Todd Richard Hunt, 25, Cape Girardeau. Clara Faye Simmons, 73, to Lloyd Cox, Jr., 69, of Johnston City. Donnie Dale Stroud, 35, and Michelle A. Jay, 32.
All the guesses for last week’s Mystery Photo were incorrect, with the identity being Shane Sullivan, who was given the prize of two Sunday dinners at Three-Mile Restaurant at Scenic Ridge.
Shane Gentry Sullivan was born on Feb. 16, 1975, in Benton, to Cecil E. and Carolyn Ann Hale Sullivan.
He has a brother, Wade Sullivan, St. Louis, and two sisters, Angela Ford and Amber Sullivan, both of DuQuoin.
Shane attended Zeigler Christian Academy and the Abeka Yideo School in the Philippines.
He is currently an electrician apprentice.
Shane was married to Denise Rene Brown on May 4, 1996, in Goreville.
He works for Brown Electric.
Shane attends the Lick Creek Pentecostal Church.
He is a member of the Local IBEW Union.
His hobbies include deer hunting and horseback riding.
And so it was, on November 27, 1996, in Goreville and Lake of Egypt.
