In the November 18, 1992, edition of the local Goreville newspaper, was a photo of the Reverend and Mrs. Gary Edmonds, missionaries to Taiwan, along with two Chinese girls, who visited the 4th grade of teacher, Robert Schierbaum, at the Goreville School.
“Christmas With Santa Claus” is being sponsored by the Lake Egypt Fire Protection District. Santa will arrive at your home via fire truck and greet your children with a book or puzzle for a donation. Call for an appointment at 964-1278.
High Honors were earned by these seniors at GHS: Kristen Gilstrap, Lora Roach, Rebekah Steinmetz, Patricia Lambert, Eliza Calhoon, Kira Jack, Angie Riepshoff, Candice Allen, Jason Henson, Todd Tripp, Amy Lauderdale, Jerrod Walker.
Bea and Paul Wood celebrated their 28th wedding anniversary with dinner at Cracker Barrel.
Rosie Craig spent four days in Springfield, visiting her daughter, Karen and Al Suguitan, Jonathan and Jessica.
James D. Johnson died early Saturday morning in a car wreck in Williamson County. He is the son of Darrell Johnson and Vicki Craig and the grandson of Herschel and Mary Anna Durham Johnson. Also in the wreck were Kirk Kirby and Andy Morrison, both of Goreville, who were treated for injuries at Marion Memorial Hospital.
A community Thanksgiving service will be held at Grange Hall Church on Nov. 25 at 7pm with the pastor, Rev. Kevin McNeeley, being the speaker. Rev. Kelly Cox of the Goreville United Methodist Church will be in charge of the music. This is sponsored by the Goreville Ministerial Alliance. All are welcome!
A special section on “Thank A Teacher” was seen on page 5. From Dana Franklin: “Mrs. Peggy Carroll was my favorite teacher because she treated us like adults. If we had a question she took time out to explain it.” From Cassie Jo James: “My favorite teacher was Mrs. Beverly Bishop, because she lets us sit in groups and gives us candy. We do fun art. Other favorites were: Pam Walker, Romelle Kaesar, Irma Stanley, Linda Ferguson, Robby Gunn and Doris Lingle.
The Mystery Photo of last week was Billy Wayne Stearns, who was born on Nov. 12, 1962, at Marion Memorial to Bill and Linda Prater Stearns.
He attended Goreville Schools and graduated from GHS in1981.
Billy moved to Des Plaines, where he lived from 1981-1987, where he worked at K & M Plastics.
His hobbies include wood working.
