In the December 4, 1996, edition of the local newspaper, was pictured the Women’s Ensemble of the Goreville Baptist Church, who had provided entertainment for the Goreville Senior Citizens on Thursday evening. The singers included Linda Ferguson, Karen Ray, Carol Kammerer and Joyce Kelley.
To celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary will be Bill and Catherine Kirby on Dec.15, 2-4pm, at the Senior Citizens Center, given by their children, Rita Motsinger, Kira Franklin. Tracy and Chris Kirby. The public is invited.
Goreville High students, Jason Billingsley and Mandy Kellums traveled to Springfield last week to participate in the “Focus on Government” sponsored by CIPS.
David and Angela Craig announce the arrival of their first child, a daughter, Elisha Marie, born on Nov. 19. Paternal grandparents are Mike and Lily Craig, Goreville, and great-grandparents, Omer and Hazel Craig, Goreville, and Etta Mae Kelley, Marion.
The Goreville Senior Citizens will enjoy a Christmas dinner at The Jolly Red Pig in Vienna on Dec. 12 at 12:30pm. Ned and Jan Trovillion will show slides of their world travels.
The GHS Beta Club will place a Christmas tree in the school entrance foyer. Students are asked to bring gloves, mittens, socks, hats, scarves, etc. to decorate the tree. These items will be taken to the Goreville Ministerial Alliance to be given to needy children.
Five residents had the correct identity of the Mystery Photo of last week, who was Gary Pritchett. The name of Jim Newton was drawn from those of Mary Moore, Lionel Goot, Dean Newton, and Cheryl Newton. The prize was a large thin crust pizza from Dad’s Pizza.
Gary Dale Pritchett was born at Marion Memorial Hospital on July 6, 1966, to Herman and LaMona Perry Pritchett Belz. His two brothers are Steve Pritchett and Billy Elliot.
Gary attended Goreville Schools and graduated from GHS in 1985.
Gary was married to Lynn Norman on Oct. 8, 1994, at Goreville. Their children are Josh and Makesha.
Gary has worked at Tuck Tape in Carbondale, Short Bros. in Marion, and is currently employed at Sullivan Trucking in Goreville.
His hobbies are going to baseball and basketball games and horseback riding.
The Johnson County Homemakers Extension will present a Christmas Home Tour on Sunday, Dec. 8, 1-5pm, beginning at the old gym of VHS, where a number of decorated trees will be displayed and refreshments served. Tickets are $4.
And so it was, in Goreville and Johnson County, on Dec. 4, 1996.
