LOOKING BACK December 24, 1986

     In the December 24, 1986, edition of the local Goreville newspaper, were photos of the Christmas Concert at the Goreville School, held on Dec. 18.

 Pictured were members of the Senior Beta Club, who provided a “Sharing and Caring” event for residents of the Creal Springs Nursing Home, by purchasing, wrapping and delivering Christmas gifts to them.  Their sponsors are Mrs. Pauline Billingsley and Mrs. Ruth Hume]

     This week’s featured teacher is Mrs. Billie Case, who has taught at Goreville for 10 year, 4 years in 2nd grade, 1 year in 4th grade, 5 years in 1st grade.  From Chattanooga, she served in the U.S. Navy for three years in San Diego and Arlington, Virginia,where she met her husband, Ron Case.

      Ron Doerge, President of the Lake of Egypt Association of Property Owners (LEAPO) was presented a vote of thanks by the LEAPO board of directors, for a difficult job, well done.

     Shown were three pages of the Union County Fair Junior Show, each from the Goreville area, with the stock they had raised.  Shane Maze, Melind Barringer, Steve Kelley, Kirk Kirby, Shawn Maze,  Todd Tripp, Shawn Tripp, and Steve Webb.

     Goreville State Bank now offers 7.25% on 60-month Individual Retirement Accounts.

     Junior and Daphene Sullivan have moved into town in the newly remodeled former home of his grandmother, Lillie Brummitt, in Old Town.

     Jody Johnson is driving his neat Olds Cutlass car, complete with dual exhaust, restored by Jody, his dad, Lavon Johnson, and brother-in-law, Don Carlton.

     Members and guests of the RLDS Church enjoyed a progressive dinner on Saturday, that included Ken and Edith Webb, Glenn and Phyllis Webb, Greg and Colleen Webb, Cindy and Gary Parmley, Neil and Kim Martin, Maria and Don Poole, and Jim and Dixie Terry.

     David Vaughn, son of Gary and Robbie Vaughn, Goreville, will graduate from Murray State University at the mid-year commencement.

     The Blackcats defeated Joppa, 83-37, with Steve Kelley making 18 points and Shawn Tripp with 16.

     The  Lady Blackcats defeated Zeigler-Royalton, 58-32, with Missy Tripp the high scorer with 20 points, Angie Coonce with 16 and Angie Tripp with10.

     Four residents correctly identified the Mystery Photo of last week, who was Cindy Parmley.  The name of Herschel Craig was drawn by Pat Rickard.  Craig won a $10 gift card from M&M Ceramic Shop.

     Cynthia Beth Webb was born in Marion Memorial Hospital on January 17, 1962, to Bob and Edna Ann Mighell Webb. She has a sister, Tammy Rowe, of Marion, and a brother, Steve. 17, of Goreville.

     Cindy attended Goreville schools and graduated from GHS in 1980.  She graduated from SIU-C in 1982 with an Associate Degree in Allied Health.

     She was married to Gary Parmley on August 21, 1982 at the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints near Tunnel Hill.

     They have a son, Christopher, 16 months.

     Cindy has worked at Union County Hospital in Anna as a physical therapist assistant since 1983.

      She is a member of the RLDS Church.

     Cindy played sports in high school.  She now plays the bass guitar in her father’s country western band, “The Bob Webb Band.”

     She lists her hobbies as playing guitar and motherhood.
