From the August 21, 1996. edition of The Goreville Gazette comes the following:

The Goreville Pentecostal Church will hold special services to honor the 25th year anniversary of the time that Reverend Ron Null and wife, Geri, have pastored the church.  On Aug. 23-24, the public is invited to attend the special services at 7pm with guest speakers.

The school board entered an agreement with the Vienna High School to offer French I through Interactive Distance Learning.

Shawnee Community College will offer ceramic classes at T and E Ceramics Studio, south of Goreville, on Sept.4-Nov. 27.

A moving auction by Jon A. Simmons will be held on Aug. 23 for Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Baity, located behind the Grantsburg Post Office.  The Baitys will be moving to Goreville.

Omer and Hazel Craig celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary on Aug. 23 and their son, Mike and wife, Lilly, also celebrated their 33rd anniversary that same date.

Courtney Webb celebrated her 10th birthday with a belated slumber party with her friends.

For sale was a Fairmont station wagon, 6 cylinder, automatic, PS and PB, good tires, new battery, rebuilt engine, for only $650.00 or best offer.

Three residents had the correct identity of last week’s Mystery Photo, who was Brian Calhoon.  The name of Bill Durham was drawn from those of Daphene Sullivan and Bea Wood. Bill won a gift card for $10 worth of gas from Williams’ Quik-Mart in downtown Goreville.

Brian Lee Calhoun was born to Marlene and Dale Calhoon at the Holden Hospital in Carbondale on Dec. 4, 1969.  He has a sister, Mitzi Moore of Goreville.

Brian attended Goreville Schools and graduated in 1987 from Goreville High.  He attended John A. Logan College for two years and SIU-C for two yeas, majoring in agriculture.  He then earned his auctioneering license from Missouri Auction School.

Brian was married to Tenia Deen in November, 1991, in McLeansboro.  They have a daughter, Ashley Taylor, 2 1/2 years old.

Brian is a full-time farmer and is an auctioneer with Deen and Calhoon Auction Service, serving all of Southern Illinois.

     His hobby is fishing.

Brian is a member of the Il. Auction Association and the Johnson County Farm Bureau.

At the Aug. 12 meeting of the Goreville School Board, the building addition and renovation projects were discussed, that include replacement of the high school gym floor, a new high school science room, and a new media center.  Bids were awarded to Fager/McGee.

And so it was, on August 21. 1996. in Goreville and Johnson County.
