JOHNSON COUNTY WOMEN’S CLUB MEETS

By Dixie Terry
The Johnson County Women’s Club held their monthly meeting at “The Art Gallery Off the Square,” in Vienna, on Friday, Nov. 3 at 1:30 p.m.

The meeting was called to order by President Faye Mize.

The roll call was “Who Is Your Favorite Artist?” with the name of Abraham Hunter, a former Vienna and Goreville resident, whose art work can be see across the country and beyond, being the favorite of many.
The Service Mission of the month was to bring cleaning supplies, paper towels and toilet tissue for the Vienna Carnegie Library.

The program chair was Geri Tesina.

Following the business meeting, the program was provided by Joe Emery, who with his wife, Marie, are owners of the art gallery. He provided an interesting program on his art background and more than thirty years teaching many genres of art in high schools and colleges across the country.

After retiring, he and Marie came back to her home county and created the art gallery in the building that was constructed for the O’Keefe car dealership back in 1939. The 6000 square feet structure was completely overhauled and renovated by the Emerys, and several local craftsmen, into the attractive gallery, where over forty artists have their work on display. Not only artists, but also writers and crafters have their creations displayed and on sale.

Any number of art classes are available for groups or for private lessons.

Joe Emery is especially proud of his J & M Art Studio, where he always has several projects underway in various art media. He welcomed the club members to tour his studio as he explained some of his projects.

Following the program, guests toured the art gallery enjoying the various art works of area artists.
The hostesses, Geri Tesina and Barb Smith, served a delightful assortment of refreshments to the members and hosts.

Members present were: Joyce Frederick, Suzanne Hirsch, Dolly Hopkins, Judy Miller, Maxine Ellet, Faye Mize, Carol Racey, Rosemary Rouse, Barb Smith, Dixie Terry, Geri Tesina, Irene Webb, Phylis Webb.

The club welcomes new members. Call for Faye Mize at 618-771-0066 for club information.

Next month’s meeting will be on Friday, Dec. 1 at “Kitchen on Lafayette” in Anna, for a lunch, followed by a tour of the historic home of Gail and Monty Webb.
