JOHNSON COUNTY HCE MAY MEETING

     The Johnson County Home and Community Education (HCE) Board held their monthly business meeting on Thursday, May 1, at 9am, at the fellowship hall of the Tunnel Hill Community of Christ Church.

     The meeting was called to order by First Vice-President Linda Kuykendall.

     Second Vice-President  Kim Collins served as secretary, in the absence of Rosemary Rouse.

     Reports were heard from board members.

     The financial report was read by Linda Kuykendall, in the absence of Treasurer Betty Yandell.  

     Community Outreach Chair Bonnie Hogue reported on the American Red Cross blood drive to be held on Monday, May 19, noon to 6pm, at the Fellowship Baptist Chrch in Vienna.  Several HCE members volunteer there.

     Cultural Enrichment Chair Arlene Dueker provided a listing of upcoming area events and also, a craft idea for the month, a quilt with embroidered sayings, using the word, “time.”

     Publicity Chair Dixie Terry reported that she continues to submit  features to the two county newspapers.

     Travel Chair Faye Mize reported that the trips to New York City and to Boston have been cancelled due to lack of reservations.  The coach trip to Mackinac Island is still set for Sept. 8-13, with the final payment due on July 1.

     HCE members  provided desserts for the benefit fish fry, held at the New Simpson Hill School, to raise funds for the tornado victims of the area.

     The collection of aluminum can tabs continues for the Ronald McDonald House in Nashville.Give these to HCE members or take them to the University of Illinois Extension Office in Vienna.

     The wreath making class is scheduled for September 25, 9am to 1pm.  The cost is  $25 per person, which includes materials and lunch provided by the HCE board. The class is limited to 15 participants.  Call for reservations at 314-803-4881.

     Those present at the May meeting were: Natalie Dougherty, Kim Collins, Faye Mize, Linda Kuykendall, Dixie Terry and Bonnie Hogue.

      The Longview unit meeting is set for May 19 at 1am at the extension building.  The Ozark unit will meet at the extension building on May 20 at 9am.  The Tunnel hill unit will meet on May 19 at 7pm at the Community of Christ Church of Tunnel Hill.

     The next board meeting will be on June 5 at 9am at the extension building.
