Miss March arrived quite nicely, like a lamb, but she stirredup some brisk winds for a few days, like a lion.
My trash can went rolling down Independence Avenue and was returned to its proper location by a good neighbor, The trash can of my next door neighbor landed in my yard and was returned by another good neighbor. Good weather for kite flying I was reminded.
Some days to recognize this week include: 12th–Working Moms Day. 14th–Write Down Your Story Day. 19th–Back Yard Day.
Of course, we cannot forget St. Patrick’s Day on Monday, March 17, with the wearing of green, visits from the leprechauns, shamrocks and cooking up Irish cuisine.
Who was Saint Patrick? He was the Patron Saint and National Apostle of Ireland, who was credited with the successful spreading of Christianity across that country. He died on March 17, circa A.D. 493.
St. Pat’s Day is the traditional day to plant garden peas, even in snow, and also for planting cabbage seeds.
March 14 will highlight a song and dance show, “A Taste of Ireland,” at the Carson Center in Paducah.
The Southern 7 Health Department and Head Start will be celebrating National Nutrition Month throughout March.
The 100th anniversary of the 1925 Tri-State Tornado will be observed on Tuesday, March 18 across Missouri, Illinois and Indiana.
Highlighted at the Morris Library at SIU-C will be a donated collection of Shawnee National Forwst paintings by Abraham Hunter, a Johnson County native, who now lives near Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Prints can be purchased, with the proceeds going to Shawnee Park and Climate Alliance (SPACA). The exhibit is located on the 1st floor rotunda of the library, through the end of March.
Illinois citizens voted to keep their Illinois state flag as is. However, the Illinois Flag Commission will have the last say of whether or not to change the 100-year-old design.
The River-to-River Trail Society will offer a hike on Saturday, March 15, at Jackson Falls in Pope County. The leader will be Marcus Owens, who can br reached at 618-534-8139 for reservations. Meet at the Mt. Zion Hill Church at 10am. This is a difficult 3.5 mile hike.
The next blood drive of the Ameican Red Cross is set for Monday, March 17, 12-6pm at Fellowship Baptist Church in Vienna, Walk-ins are welcome.
The Posh Home and Garden Show will be held at the Paducah Expo Center on Friday, March 14, 4-8:30pm and Saturday, March 15, 9am-5:30pm.
The Youth Worship Service of the Eagle House Ministries will be held on March 19 at New Liberty Church near Eddyville . Food will be served at 6:30pm followed by the church service at 7pm. All area youth are invited, as well as their adults.
Along with my daughters, Pam and Nancy, we enjoyed a Hawaian luau sponsored by the Williamson County HCE, held at the Boy Scout cabin in Ashley Park in Marion, on Saturday. Ukelele music, hula dancing and delicious food were included. The proceeds will go for community projects.
The Johnson County Genealogical and Historical Society will meet on Sunday, March 16, at 2:30pm at the Vienna Public Library community room. The public is urged to attend the program of “Show and Tell” by the board members.

Congratulations to our granddaughter, Leah Montgomery Sadlo, of Orange Park, Florida, who has been accepted as a member of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution. She has joined the chapter in Orange Park and her patriot is Daniel Chapman, her 10th great-grandfather, for whom the local chapter is named.
Volunteers at the Goreville Ministerial Alliance Thrift Shop on March 11-13-15 will be members of the Lick Creek Pentecostal Church. The shop will be open on Tuesday and Thursday at 9am to 4pm and on Saturday, 9am to noon. Shop for bargains galore!

The delegates of the Goreville Ministerial Alliance held their monthly meeting on Wednesday, March 5 at the GMA Thrift Shop Alliance, with nine members present. The business meeting was conducted by President Terri Whitehead. Scholarship applications are now available from member churches.
