From the April 12, 1995, edition of the Goreville newspaper, were seen the winners of the annual Beta Club talent show. Grades 7-12–1st Place–Trina Dunn, Dana Franklin and Anne Pfeffer. 2nd–Sarah Smith. 3rd–Andy Hannon. Grades K-6–1st-Krystal Short. 2nd-Leslie Peas. 3rd-Charity Hancock and Allethia Maze. The Master of Ceremony was Bob Webb. The judges were: Billie Case, Dick Molt, Nadine Benson and Scott Belange.
Rock climbing has proved to be dangerous lately. For the second time in two weeks, a rock climber has been injured in Johnson County. Steve Owens, 26, of Paducah, fell about 30 feet at Draper’s Bluff, west of Goreville, on Sunday. He suffered a possible arm and pelvis fracture and was flown to Lourdes Hospital by LifeBeat Air Ambulance.
Community Easter Serices will be held at the First Baptist Church of Goreville on Friday, April 14, at 7pm, with special music provided. All churches of the community are welcomed.
The village board of trustees met on April 13 in the municipal building. Mayor Bill Durham called the meeting to order at 7pm. Present were: Don Kerley, Larry Vaughn, Greg Hutchison, Tim Gage and Steve Benard, and Treasurer, Judy Maze and Clerk, Beverly Henson.
The fire department requested the use of the city park on the weekend of July 4, to host a rodeo by Rolling J. The board approved the request.
An Easter Egg Hunt will be held in the city park on Saturday, April 15, with refreshments at 12 noon and a 1pm hunt. This is sponsored by the Goreville Ruritan Club.
The Lake of Egypt VFW and Auxiliary Post
meeting will be held April 18 at 7pm at the Senior Center in Goreville, to elect officers.
The Heather Harper Treat Memorial spaghetti supper will be held at the Vienna High School on April 21 at 7pm, followed by a gospel sing. Tickets are $5 and $3.
The Magna Bank Goreville Banking Center offers 3.75% on $25,000 or more.

Ten residents solved the Photo Mystery of last week, who was Eugene Lindsey. LaVerne Underwood’s name was drawn from those of Linda Stearns, Daphene Sullivan, June Dunn,
George Billingsley, June Thornton, Bill Stearnes, Helen Stokes, Mary Moore and David Hall.
Eugene Lindsey was born in a home delivery in Williamson County on Nov. 5, 1922, to Ernest and Rosa Jones Lindsey.
He has brothers, Claude, Carl and Glenn, and a sister, Allene.
Eugene attended Wayside School.
Eugene met Betty Hendee in 1970 in Goreville.
Their children are Steve, 24, and Jenny, 22.
H was a farmer for Lindsey Farms and Heyden and Heinz Farms for 30 years.
He is a member of the Fox Hunters Club.
His hobbies include horseback riding, coon hunting, and talking with old friends and new ones.
The River-to-River Relay will run on April 22 with some 230 teams participating. The meeting place for teams will be the Marion Holiday Inn. The relay begins at the Mississippi River and will proceed across Southern Illinois, traveling through Johnson County, including Goreville, Tunnel Hill, and Simpson, arriving at the Ohio River in Golconda, where a celebration will be underway.
And so it was, on April 12, 1995, in Goreville and Lake of Egypt.
