LOOKING BACK September 18, 1996

In the September 18, 1996, edition of the Goreville newspaper, the regular board meeting of the village trustees met on Sept. 3. Mayor Bill Durham presided, with these trustees present: Don Kerley, Roy Byrd, Larry Vaughn, Brent Schierbaum, Steve Benard, and Tim Gage.
A part-time police officer will be hired with free training by MTU. Speed bumps were requested for Gore Street, by a resident, but the board agreed that would not slow down the speeding. The board agreed to purchase a pager for Officer Leach.
Johnson County Quilters and Craft Guild is being organized. The meeting will be on Oct. 8, 9am to 2:30pm, at the U. Of I. Extension Building in Vienna.
A new Community Service Group held a luncheon at Ryan’s Restaurant and will meet on Nov. 12 at 1pm in the Goreville Senior Center with a covered dish lunch. All are invited.
Peck and June Dunn traveled to Oklahoma last week to visit relatives and returned home by way of The Bass Pro Shop in Springfield, Mo.
Patricia Lambert celebrated her birthday with a back-yard party at the home of her parents, Joe and Terry Lambert, with lots of family members.
Earnest and Clara Faye Perry celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Sept. 14 with an open house and outdoor dinner party at their home, with 150-200 relatives and friends attending.
Kenneth and Fayetta Ballard hosted a birthday party for Gregg Elkins, Fayetta’s son, on Sept. 15, and for Carma Graves, daughter of Louise Henderson.
All those attempting to identify last week’s Mystery Photo failed, so the Mystery Person, Todd Kelley, received the prize of a large pizza from Dad’s Pizza in downtown Goreville.
Todd Ryan Kelley was born on Dec. 30, 1967, at Marion Memorial Hospital to Lyndall Kelley and Saundra Hudgens Douglas. He has a brother, Scott.
Todd attended Lincoln School, Marion Junior High, and graduated from Marion High in 1986. He graduated from John A. Logan College in 1988 and from SIU-C in 1990.
Todd is “single and searching.”
He has worked as a scale operator at Goreville Livestock Auction and as manager of P&S Grain and Farm Supply in Goreville.
He is a member of McKinney Chapel Freewill Chapel Church.
His hobbies include golfing, racing horses and hiking.
At Grandparents Day at the Goreville School, Amy Vinson was named the youngest grandparent present and shown with her granddaughter, Jessica Richardson.
And so it was, on Sept. 18, 1996, at Lake of Egypt and Goreville.
