From May 15, 2002, comes this news item from the local newspaper: “The University of Illinois Extension is co-operating with the “Walk Around America” crusade. Charlene Hodge, Family Nutrition Co-Ordinator for the Extension, who teaches the Food Guide Pyramid, walked with the Goreville pre-K classes at the village park walking trail this week.
The morning Pre-K class included: Tammy Shields, teacher; Ian Davis, Bereah Hill, Harley McIlwain, Makanda Phillips, Brandi Billingsley, Hannah Murley, Donnie Vest, Wyatt Maze, Lexi Pritchett, Jennifer Hudson, Alyson Gwaltney, Jeremy Hudson, Rick McCarver.
The afternoon class pictured Kolton Morrison, Zachary Hill, Alicea Maynor, Ethan Childers, Emily Miles, Kyle Dunn, Tucker Manier, Elisha Craig, Justice Hite, Olivia Girtman, Sylvia Girtman, Aaron Gunther, Tiffany Lamp, Dakota Norris, Dalton Norris, and Mark McCormick.”
Johnson County residents were pleased to hear that the plans of the state to close the Vienna Correctional Center has ended without a court fight.
Over forty mothers and daughters of the Lick Creek Pentecostal Church enjoyed a banquet at Bennie’s in Marion recently.
Webb Sullivan and his bride-to-be, Christy Jones, will be getting married this Friday.
Clara Faye Perry and daughters, LaMona Flick and Brenda Lingle and her sister, Marietta Kilmer traveled to Branson, Mo. to visit Brenda’s daughter, Kim Delgado and family last week.
Larry and Terri Peterson hosted a Mothers’ Day dinner at their home, with these attending: Berna Dean and Ronald Whitehead; Mike, Robin, McKenzie and Brody Whitehead; Mary Pritchett; Donnie and LaWanda Billingsley; Leann, Cassie, Miranda and Christian Stafford; Herman, Betty and Kim Pritchett; Denny and Vanessa Duncan; Robbie, Connie and Amy Hancock.
Seen on Channel 12’s “Everyone Has A Story” segment were Goreville’s two stars, Bill and Juanita Kelley, who looked great.
The Goreville Ag students, with their teacher, Jeff Robison, have made a showing once more this year. Pictured was Tyler Parrish, who received the State Farmers Degree and Star State Agribusiness Award. Tyler and Jason West won Section Proficiency Awards also. Jason won State Ag Sales Placement and Tyler placed third in State Turf Grass Management.
No one identified last week’s Mystery Picture, which was Kassi Hancock, who was awarded a pizza from “Dad’s Pizza,” compliments of Meredith Funeral Home. Kassie Lee Hancock was born at Herrin Hospital on Oct. 11, 1983. to Bill and Karen Annable Hancock Taylor. She has one sister, Lee Anna Hancock, Goreville. Kassi attended Goreville Schools and graduated from GHS in 2001. She is single, but is looking a little. Kassi works at KB Bar-B-Que in Goreville. She is a member of the Abundant Life Assembly Church in Marion. She lists her hobby as shopping.
And so it was, in Goreville and Lake of Egypt, on May 15, 2002.
