Jo. Co. HCE April Meeting

The Johnson County Home and Community Education (HCE) Board of the University of Illinois Extension held their regular business meeting on Tuesday, April 5, at 9 a.m., at the Extension Building in Vienna.

Present were: Faye Mize, Cara Webb, Natalie Dougherty, Rosemary Rouse, Ann Ford, Betty Yandell, Phyllis Webb, Dixie Terry and Kim Collins.

The meeting was called to order by President Dougherty.

Discussed was a fundraiser for 2022, with a repeat of last year’s fundraiser at the summer performance of the VHS “Summer Intensive Program,” with a different menu, to be decided upon.

1st Vice President Rosemary Rosue gave a summary of the “All-Units Meeting” held in March.
“Blue Zone” will be the next monthly lesson of the HCE units.

2nd Vice President Kim Collins announced another new member, Debbie Hileman, to the Ozark unit.
Secretary Ann Ford provided the March minutes, and after minor corrections , they were approved for filing.

Treasurer Betty Yandell gave the financial report, also approved for recording.

Family Living Chair Phyllis Webb shared a recent unique experience of a family memorial service for a friend of their family.

Community Outreach Chair Cara Webb reported that the next American Red Cross Blood Drive will be held on Monday, May 16, noon to 6 p.m. at Fellowship Baptist Church.

Cultural Enrichment Chair and also Publicity Chair Dixie Terry provided a print-out of upcoming events in the area. She will write a feature, with photo, on the All-Units event for the state newsletter.

Past President and Travel and Scholarship Chair Faye Mize presented information on the scholarship recipients, whose presentation luncheon was given by the HCE Board following the business meeting.

Mize also presented information on the travel opportunities in 2022, to Branson and Nashville.

The Mothers’ Day luncheon has been rescheduled to 2023.

Rosemary Rouse, who will escort two veterans at the Southern Illinois Honor Flight in June reported that two Johnson County veterans, Kenneth Yandell and Jack Jones, will be on the Honor Flight.

Thank you notes, for donations, were received from Bryan Throgmorton and the Angel Tree committee.
With no further business, the meeting was adjourned by President Dougherty.
