On Monday, Feb. 1, at 9 a.m., the Johnson County Home and Community Education (HCE) Board of the University of Illinois Extension, was called to order by President Natalie Dougherty.
She reported that eleven members had turned in their annual volunteer hours, with 514 HCE volunteer hours and 2,217 volunteer hours for other events.
It was also reported that no members had registered to attend the ILHCE State Conference that will be held March 15-17,2022, in Effingham. It is hoped that county HCE members can make plans to attend the 2023 State Conference on March 14-16.
1st Vice President Rosemary Rouse continues to update unit lessons for this year. 2nd Vice President Kim Collins reported the membership numbers, with the Ozark unit having seven members; Longview, with ten members; and Tunnel Hill having 28 members, for a total of 45.
Secretary Ann Ford provided the January minutes, that were approved as read.
The Treasurer’s Report from Betty Yandell, was read by President Dougherty and approved for recording and auditing.
Family Living Chair, Phyllis Webb, shared her recent trip to Hawaii where she and her husband attended church. She displayed two leis crafted from can tabs and ribbon, that were presented to them.
Aluminum can tabs continue to be collected by the county HCE units, to be donated to the Ronald McDonald House in Nashville, for their major fundraiser.
Community Outreach Chair, Cara Webb, reported on the January American Red Cross Blood Drive, held at the Fellowship Baptist Church. Thirty-two units of blood were collected. The next blood drive will be noon to 6 p.m. on Monday, March 21.
Cultural Enrichment and Publicity Chair, Dixie Terry, provided a listing of special February dates and area events. She also reported of the local newspapers publicity of the HCE.
International Chair Ann Stachowiak reported that Italy will be the 2022 country of study.
It was decided to donate $25 to the VHS Graduation Project.
Thank-You letters were received from Blessings In A Backpack, The Poshard Foundation and Bryan Throgmorton, and a newsletter was received from The Cornerstone Foundation.
The names of the $500 scholarship recipients will be announced in March by Chair Faye Mize.
HCE Travel Opportunities will include Branson, Mo.–Nov. 14-18 and Nashville, Tn.–Nov. 28-30, with final payment due in September. Call Faye Mize at 618-771-0066 for additional information.
An all-units meeting will be held on March 23 at Fellowship Baptist Church.
The next board meeting will be on March 1 at 9 a.m. at the Extension Building in Vienna.
