GOREVILLE — Darrell W. Venus, age 71, of Goreville, Illinois, passed away on Tuesday, June 16, 2020 at 5:01 p.m. at Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion.
Darrell was born on December 28, 1948 in Harrisburg, to Harley Frank and Geraldine (Edwards) Venus. He married Lora Hinckle on July 3, 1969 in Dongola and she survives.
Darrell spent most of his working life in the automobile industry, in sales and then in finance. He most recently worked for Durham Transportation, driving a school bus for the Goreville school district. Darrell was a member of West Monroe Apostolic Church in Herrin where he was an active supporter of Bible Quizzing, enjoyed spending time with the young people and was a pillar in the church. He was a volunteer firefighter and first responder for the Goreville Fire Department. Darrell loved fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. Darrell was often described as a gentle, loving, kind and generous man.
Survivors include:
Wife – Lora Venus of Goreville; Three Children: Darren (Danielle) Venus, Evangeline Venus, Justin Venus; Two Grandchildren: Grant Venus, Grayson Venus; Three Cousins: Pat Uchitjil, Howard Pierce, Crevolyn Wiley.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A private visitation will be held at Blue Funeral Home in Goreville. Darrell’s wishes were to be cremated and a memorial service will be held at West Monroe Apostolic Church in Herrin at a later date.
Darrell W. Venus was a man that loved God and family above all else and lived his life as proof of that love. In honor of this spirit and his memory, the family is requesting that any resources normally designated for flowers, gifts, cards, or other traditional means of paying respects, instead be used to express love and appreciation to each one’s own family. It is what we believe would be his sincerest wish and the best way to honor his life.
